According to a recent Reuters article, many sources are claiming that AT&T has formed a plan they hope will allow them to obtain T-Mobile. The plan is composed of two parts and is aimed at government officials. The first phase of the plan includes AT&T’s guarantee that pricing for current T-Mobile voice and data plans will not be increased. This is directly linked to government fear that the merger would result in higher prices. As the second part of its plan, AT&T hopes to sell off part of T-Mobiles assets, including up to 25% of the company’s customer sphere. The Justice Department has voiced fears that the merger would result in decreased competition and AT&T’s monopolization of the field. If AT&T is able to acquire T-Mobile, the company would hold over 50% of markets throughout the United States. Customer satisfaction with AT&T has been turbulent, and the wireless company Goldie Group, headed by Kenny Goldie, recently noted articles claiming that AT&T has the lowest satisfaction of any cellular company. While AT&T has said they would like to sell part of T-Mobile, it is not clear who would buy the assets.
